biography

Silvia engages with subjects of beauty, the precious and the grotesque, the heritage and the future, in detailed and complex ways using various media. Originally from Germany, she has an applied art background in traditional gold and silversmithing. Silvia undertook a three-year silversmithing apprenticeship before studying Jewellery at the University of Art and Design Burg Giebichenstein Halle in Germany. Combining her traditional expertise with new technologies of the haptic arm and 3D printing, learnt during her MA at the Royal College of Art, she innovates and revels in new possibilities of making which she calls 'digital craft'. These new tools and methods of thinking and making have led to interesting collaborations such as working with architects, filmmakers, SHOWstudio, Vogue, Design Museum London, the Sir John Soane Museum London, BMW Munich and Microsoft Research Cambridge,Victoria and Albert Museum London.
