Programme Overview
Product Design at the GSA's School of Innovation and Technology provides a unique and holistic overview of design’s role in future society. The BDes and MEDes programmes equip students with a diverse skill set and thorough understanding of design’s evolving role as the creative and strategic link between technology and society. Both programmes offer opportunities for international study, as well as the possibility to participate in live projects with businesses and public-sector organisations. As a result, our graduates have a unique, multicultural perspective that prepares them for all sorts of creative possibilities. The Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme challenges conventional perceptions of product design as a solely industrial discipline, focusing instead on reimagining experiences and responding to the complexities of modern life. Our students work beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries and engage with specialist expertise from other domains, such as science, medicine or technology, to create a vision of a better future. The Master of European Design (MEDes) is a unique programme created by the School of Innovation and Technology in partnership with other eminent European institutions. The programme sets the school's trans-disciplinary approach to product design in an international context, providing an opportunity for you to immerse yourself in different cultures and experience alternative approaches that will inform your future practice. The MEDes pathway shares its first two years with the BDes programme, at which point you can choose which of the two directions best suits your academic objectives. MEDes students spend the following two years studying abroad in two different European schools, before returning to Glasgow for the final year. All GSA degree programmes are validated by the University of Glasgow.
